The wide variety of flower personal checks available at Check Advantage had me thinking about my own gardening experiences today.
Since becoming a homeowner, I’ve learned some hard lessons about planting both flower gardens and vegetable gardens. It ain’t easy pal!
Besides the usual weeding and watering, you’ve got to worry about the quality of the soil, insects and rabbits who want to eat up your hard work; even your own stupidity can be a danger!
I made fun of my dad for putting weed-killer on his vegetable garden last year when he used an unlabeled container he thought was insecticide. This year I sprayed the wrong stuff on my lawn and now the grass looks like it has leprosy.
My wife and I plant flowers every year, and they usually end up a little thirsty by mid-summer because we’re forgetting to take care of them. Now I’m working on a vegetable garden and hoping I can pull it off.
My wife started helping me dig up the ground in the backyard and start planting. Then she ran into a few slimy earthworms and decided she had better things to do.
That means I’m on my own…for now. But when those veggies are ready to pick, eat and hand out to friends and family – it will once again become our vegetable garden instead of just my vegetable garden.
I’m a beginner at the gardening thing, and at this point, I’m just hoping for the best. I’ve already made a few mistakes, like planting things too close together. Yet I’m learning as I move forward. For instance, I can recognize the plant in the picture to the left will yield green peppers. (Aren’t you proud of me?)
I’m sure there will be plenty of challenges coming my way…but it’s all worth it in the end. When you put that much time and energy into something you want to see it thrive and grow.
