Imagine what it must have been like to be the keeper of a lighthouse.
Long peaceful days, quiet and often lonely nights, but every so often you’d be faced with a great responsibility.
When a storm starts brewing out over the water, it’s your job to let ships at sea know they are getting dangerously close to striking land, or guide them safely into a harbor.
The lighthouse symbolizes many things for different people. Although a lot of the classic lighthouses are no longer in operation, people have worked to restore and maintain these structures so others can continue to enjoy their beauty and history.
Here in the Midwest, lighthouses dot the shoreline of the Great Lakes where cargo ships used to bring goods into port cities like Chicago and Milwaukee. That was before the highway system and trucking industry became prevalent.
You’ll also find both magnificent and quaint lighthouses on both the East Coast and West Coast.
One of the oldest and most famous Lighthouses ever constructed was the Lighthouse of Alexandria. It was built on the Egyptian island of Pharos sometime around 280 B.C. For hundreds of years it was one of the tallest man-made structures on the planet, and it was considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
The Lighthouse of Alexandria no longer stands but in 1994, divers found some of its remains and you can see the ruins through satellite images.
Check Advantage offers two different sets of personal checks featuring lighthouses from all over the country. You’ll find them in our On the Water Personal Checks.
Many people have collections of lighthouses because they remind us to look for that guiding light in times of trouble. That bright beacon cuts through the rain and pitch black darkness leading seafaring vessels back home or away from danger.
When you use personal checks depicting different lighthouses – it will remind you to think about what guides you in times of trouble. What do you trust to show you the way? Your family and friends? Your faith? The morals and values instilled in you since you were a child?
At Check Advantage you can order our Lighthouses Personal Checks or Pier Lighthouse Personal Checks. Both personal check designs feature original photography of those trustworthy towers that make their home at the water’s edge.
If you order your new lighthouse checks online today you could save as much as 75% off what your bank charges you to reorder checks.
Every time you open your checkbook you’ll remember to focus on what’s important in life – even in the midst of a storm when thunder is crashing and waves are splashing all around you.
One image of a lighthouse that is burned in my memory comes from the movie Pete’s Dragon. Actress and singer Helen Reddy performed the song “Candle on the Water” for the film. Watch the video below and you’ll get a feeling for how impressive lighthouses can be.
